There's a temptation to be skeptical about the authenticity of these monthly processions, knowing they are sponsored by the office of tourism, but after watching the "calenda" that happened right here in our small community of San Felipe, I can enthusiastically confirm that these performers are the real thing--minus several saints, muddy shoes, and a statue of the Virgin.
